Sometimes just writing a good blog post isn’t enough to get it noticed by search engines, but no worries I’m here to help you with your SEO. Now I’m not going to tell you how to write your posts in general or what to write, however I’ll tell you about the elements each blog post should have. Some of these features I’ve always done more unconsciously, some I knew from courses I attended at Uni and some I learned through reading other blog posts.
Blog Post Features for better SEO
The first thing is just what you see above. Set Subheadings, this way it’s not only more pleasant for your readers to navigate through the post, but it works in your favour SEO wise. Even better when you can include your keyword in a subheading, like I did. Subheadings aren’t major ranking factors but they are beneficial.
The second point I have for you is to mention the keyword of your blog post a few times. Especially try to mention about what your writing in the first sentence of your post! I didn’t do it first but for a good couple of month I got a close eye on it. This way the search engine won’t have problems distinguishing what your post is about. Now mentioning your keyword is important to improve your search engine optimization. However don’t go overboard and include your keyword in every third sentence! This would even be like killing all your hard earned SEO! I usually include the keyword 4-6 times in my articles.
On to the length of your post. When you read about optimizing your blog post, they suggest to write at least 300 words. I usually don’t have any problems with achieving it. I often write more than 300 words and so will probably you. It sounds like a lot but it isn’t really.
The next point is a plus to help with your ranking but it’s not a must. Try to include a link. And just so you know, I doesn’t have to be a link for a product or any other site, you can easily include a reference link to one of your posts like I did in this blog post.
Other Elements beside writing
We covered the main points about the writing part. Well, there are other parts to a blog post, where you can improve your search engine rating. Include some pictures. It’s always nice to add some photos to the text and helps with your SEO.
Make sure your keyword is in the URL of your blog post. This way the search engines can track your post better.
At last you ought to forget your blog title. It should be inviting and catch the readers attention, so they will click on it and read the rest of your post. I’m sometimes not sure how my headline will preform so I use coshedule to help me out. You can simply put in your headline and they will give you a score.
Another great tool too keep in check, if I added all the important elements to my blog post, I use Yoast SEO. It’s a nifty little plugin which let’s me see if it’s a good one SEO wise.
Now you know how I structure my blog posts. It may sound like a few things but if you have been in the blogging game for a time, chances are you’re doing lot’s of the points already. And for any blogger newbies, I hope I could be of some help.
Let me know if this post was of some help and if you would like to see more of these posts. I’m definitely going to make a series out of it but depending on the demand, it may be shorter or longer.
Have a lovely day and get on writing, xx
