A Guide to the Oktoberfest in Stuttgart – the Wasn

12 days ago I was In Stuttgart at the Oktoberfest and already partying in full swing. Suited and booted with my Olympus Pen I spent a great weekend with my friends at the Wasn. Without further of due, I’ll talk you through my two days at the Wasn and tell you what I got up to at this massive German festival.

The Wasn

On Saturday we started early, taking the train from our hotel near the Stuttgart airport at about half ten in the morning. On the train I did the other girls hair and we had a right laugh getting there. Once arrived at the Wasn – that’s how the Germans call their autumn festivity –  we had a look around and walked towards our tent.

  • When you arrive at the Wasn make sure it’s bevor 11 and head more or less straight to a tent to secure yourself a seat at a table as they are really popular! It’s a must to spend a few hours in a tent and experience the whole Oktoberfest festivities that are going on in there.

When we arrived at the tent – there are this huge “tents” built out of wood and capable of holding a few thousand people – we had to get our tickets. Whilst some of us waited, I took the opportunity take some outfits shots.

Most people will wear traditional German outfits. I personally love the look and of course I had to dress myself in a dirndl. Found this beauty on sale and I really liked the look and feel of my dirndl.

  • If you want the whole Oktoberfest experience get yourself a “dirndl” (the traditional dress) and for the boys some “Lederhosen” (the leather pants).

After putting on our wrist bands, it was time to go into the tent. On the Oktoberfest there are about 9 tents and each on is decorated in a different style. We went to the Sonja Merz tent, as we had been bevor and really liked it. I just love the ceiling with all the red and white buntings. Just look how full the tent at 11 o’clock in the morning already was! Once seated at our table (we pre booked one which I would recommend to everyone as you’ll avoid the hassle of finding some free space otherwise) like true Oktoberfest style we ordered our “Mass” that’s a whole liter of beer for each one of us. Not long after that we stood on our benches and were signing and dancing.

  • Have a beer and some food in the tent. Indulge in some German specialities and don’t forget to hold up your beer and join in when everybody toasts to each other. Plus stand on those benches and dance your feet off. Nothing’s better than good food, drinks and company combined with a little bit of dancing and singing.

For the next few hours 11-5 o’clock we spent our time in the tent enjoying ourselves. Drinking beer, dancing, singing, eating delicious food and just having the best time. At 5 everybody will be asked to leave the tent. Yes all people must leave the tent, as soon the next shift with new groups will start. We took the opportunity to walk around the area some more, go on a few rides and have a bite or two as there are many food stands around. Then it was time to move on to the next tent. This time it was a wine tent – yay. It was really nice and I think we spent another 3 hours in there.

  • A walk around the area is always nice. There are food stands, rides and lots of boots with fun games! Wether in the day or at night you will always find some fun activities!

How cool does the whole place look at night?! When all the stands and rides turn on their lights it becomes really colourful and makes you wanna ride some more rides. Bevor heading home we just had to take another rollercoaster or two. However after a whole day of festivities we were all knackered and just wanted to go to sleep and that’s exactly what we did. We took the train to our hotel and basically 30 min after arriving we were already in bed and sleeping.

Sunday adventures

The next day, we kind of slept in. Well we all met in the lobby at 9 to go to the breakfast together. With a buffet and a a la carte menu everybody was satisfied and filled our stomachs full with some yummy food.

Then we went off in to Stuttgart to have a walk around the city bevor heading back to the Wasn. This time we didn’t dress up. As you probably can tell we didn’t have the nice weather from Saturday anymore. But we still had a great day. Walking around made us hungry, so we went to another tent and had some German specialities. In general you do eat really well at the Wasn and in Stuttgart of course.

  • Take a walk through the city you are in or maybe the area your hotel’s in might be nice to have a look around. Or have a second visit to the Oktoberfest. Whatever suits you.

Sunday afternoon, it was time to say goodby to the Oktoberfest, well at least for this year. From the train you had a last but brilliant view on to the fairessweel. We went back to the hotel, packed up our cars and drove back home.

It has been my third time at the Oktoberfest. It’s a special event to go to and it’s not everybody’s cup of tea. I had an amazing weekend with a really good group of friends including my boyfriend. We’re already been talking about going back next year!

Have you been to the Oktoberfest? What do you think of it? Would you go to one? Let’s me know in the comments down below.
